Our History

The City of Berkeley, Missouri was incorporated on July 30^th of 1937, it wasn’t until October of 1955 that the City of Berkeley Fire Department was established, prior to becoming established the Fire Department was staffed with volunteer members as the Berkeley Volunteer Fire Department which operated out of an Engine House located at 9001 Springdale and Middleway (Hanley Road).

Hugh E. Brandiff became the first paid Fire Chief of the City of Berkeley Fire Department.

In December of 1956 the first City of Berkeley Fire Department Engine House 1 was built at 6140 Middleway (North Hanley Road) and Airport Road.

In February of 1958 the City of Berkeley Fire Department Engine House 2 was built at 9363 Natural Bridge Road.

In April of 2012 the new City of Berkeley Fire Department Engine House 1 was dedicated and is still in use today for day-to-day operations.
