Bureau of Investigations

The Berkeley Police Department Bureau of Investigations, or Detective Bureau, is under the command of a Division Commander. This division consists of four detectives.

Responsibilities

The Bureau of Investigations is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations into crimes reported in the city, crime scene processing and evidence management. Detectives are on-call 24 hours a day. Also, the Bureau Captain is responsible for the City’s Neighborhood Watch Program.

Within the unit, detectives have sub-specialties:

  • Fraud
  • Identity Theft
  • Sex Crimes
  • Auto Theft
  • Burglary
  • Juvenile Offenders
